Organising Multimodal Mobility Hubs - Industrial PhD scholarship in sustainable mobility

Both in Denmark and internationally there is an increasing interest in multimodal mobility hubs, as they have a great potential for shifting mobility behaviour towards more sustainable options, thus reducing congestion in urban areas and combating mobility poverty in rural ones.

This PhD research will contribute to the development of such sustainable multimodal mobility hubs through introducing new interdisciplinary, interorganisational and intersectoral methods to the complex process of establishing multimodal mobility hubs in a Danish context. Most research within transport, urban planning and design focuses on the technical aspects of multimodal mobility hubs, overlooking the organisational frameworks and operational models that support them. This knowledge gap will be addressed in this PhD research, which ultimately will contribute to increasing sustainable mobility behaviours and the green transition and provide new insights into the creation of economically viable frameworks that unite public and private stakeholders in the field of urban and rural mobility, thus developing the added value potential of multimodal mobility hubs.

Responsibilities and tasks

An industrial PhD is an industrially focused research project which is conducted jointly by a private sector company, a PhD student and a university. The PhD student is employed by a company in Denmark and at the same time enrolled at a university and divides their working time between the company and the university. The duration of the research project corresponds to the duration of the education, which in Denmark is three years.
